Happy Teachers' Day!

(haha no. my teachers don't dress like that.) +

Happy Teachers' Day to all the teachers and lecturers in this world! You taught me how to count so I don't give the wrong change, you taught me languages so I could understand, you taught me photography so i could capture my memories, you taught me design so I could make this world a little brighter.....You make the world greater and because of you we have this great day of holiday!

(and since my little sis and brother have no school today.... we are gonna take a break and go have some fun!)

I remembered I used to give a red pen (for marking papers), an apple and a little present to my favourite teacher each year. What did you give your teachers?

Peace out.

I hope you have some fun today and don't forget to give your teacher a great big hug!

Please share a little about you and your shop.
Jane Joss is an alias for Joslyn & Alyssa Krismer. We met as college room mates, became best friends when we married twins, and became business partners when we started Jane Joss in January of 2009..

How did you get started selling and making these lovely items?
Jane Joss actually started because of a free sewing machine given to Joslyn. We taught ourselves to sew and began looking for projects. When our first fabric leaf turned out so cute, we knew we had to sell them. After every new creation we would say, "oh, that's so sweet!". So, the obvious name for our leaves became "Sweet Leaves". After we mastered our stems, we moved on to potted plants. Coming soon... mini stems for bud vases, and wreaths!

Tell us what inspires you? Be it links, blog or shops you like to share?
Our Sweet Leaves are, of course, inspired by nature. Since starting Jane Joss, our primary inspiration is fabric. There are so many beautiful fabrics out there. It is so exciting to find that "perfect" pattern that makes us rush home to work! Of course, those fabrics are reflections of current style trends. We try to keep up to date with the latest trends for the home. Design*Sponge is a favorite of ours.

I love the fabrics you use! tell me more about them!
Our very first Sweet Leaves were made using a great Braemore decorator weight fabric. We named them Garden Green Branches and they have definately been our best seller. Unfortunately, we can't find more anywhere. We will be sad when we run out! Since starting Jane Joss, we have discovered so many great fabric designers. We love to shop fabric suppliers from Etsy. Our local "slice of Heaven" is Cabbage Rose Quilting in Fort Worth. The great thing about fabric is you can find it anywhere! Our latest plants are made from a beautiful vintage fabric found at an antique shop in New Braunfels, TX!

TIPS + TRICKS

Ok, I just have to share with you these 2 amazing photo editing tools I stumble upon recently.
Don't worry. There's no need for Photoshop or any other photo editing software you need to download!

With a few simple click of your mouse, you be able to get lovely photos with rounded corners and create gorgeous reflection to give dimension to your photograph!

Firstly, go to roundpic.com.
(link opens in new window. so you could still follow the instruction)

::

you could either upload a photo from your computer
or simply input the url of the photograph you intend to give the round edge effect.

You could even fill the 'erased portion' with a color of your choice!
I recommend ticking 'transparent'.
plus you could even decide how round you want the edges to be!

Before.

After.

round corners in a snap! how great!

now for the reflection maker. which is even more amazing! you realise I can't stop saying the word "amazing"? haha.

Ok, first go to www.reflectionmaker.com
(link opens in new window. so you could still follow the instruction)

same as the roundit tool, you could either choose to upload the photo
via your computer or by the imageurl. (e.g the photo you host on flickr or photobucket.)

click once on generate and wait. (bigger file size takes a longer time.)
don't click again and again. you will jam up the process.

once the file is ready, it will show up like this.

Before.

After.

check out the reflection! Are you amazed?
It's even better than photoshop, isn't it?
all done within mins! lol.

now go have fun with your photographs and tell your friends! :)
